What is the
ePharmacy?

  • The ePharmacy is a fully virtual online tele-medicine support programme that offers convenient PrEP services to various populations.
  • Alternative option for PrEP clients who are looking for a more convenient service.
  • The ePharmacy is convenient and cost effective as clients can access HIV testing services at the facility and have PrEP medication delivered directly to their door.
  • The programme is most valuable for:
  • The working population who may struggle to access facility services during normal working hours
  • Clients who live in outlying and rural areas who need to travel to the facility
  • Hidden key population clients who may fear stigma
  • Clients who are stable PrEP users

How does the

ePharmacy work?

  • You will be provided with 3 months of medication every time we send you a parcel – should there be a need to issue less medication, for whatever reason, the nurse will advise you of this before the medication is dispensed
  • 20 days prior to you completing your course of medication, we will contact you to facilitate an in-clinic HIV test, when required. You will need to go to the nearest partner clinic (preferred), DoH facility or private provider (for your own account) to conduct HIV testing
  • You must request a copy of the test result which you will need to submit to us for your next 3-month supply of medication to be dispensed (a copy of a test result request form is included in your parcel)
  • Your result should be sent via WhatsApp to 077 402 2456 and one of our team will review the result and contact you to confirm delivery information

Important information

to remember:

  • Your medication must not be shared with anyone else - medication must be stored in a safe place that is not easily accessible by others
  • Take 1 tablet every day, around the same time each day - if you are a first time user, wait 7 days after you start taking it before you have sex
  • If you miss your dose, you can still take it as long as it's within 12 hours of you normal time. If it's longer than 12 hours, you'll have to miss that dose and take the next one at the usual time.
  • You should contact us immediately on 077 402 2456 (call or message) should you have any concerns whilst taking your PrEP medication or should you need any support
  • Important information to remember: If you feel like you want to stop taking your PrEP, for whatever reason, please contact us so that we can provide you with the necessary support
  • You should continue to use condoms to reduce the risk of  other STIs
